| Development and Peace asks that the Canadian government, who is currently revising its aid policy in Afghanistan, formulate a clear and transparent plan, allocate an appropriate budget for aid and prioritize poor and vulnerable populations throughout the country.
In preparation for the June 12 meeting of the Afghan Government and its international partners in Paris, Development and Peace has joined its voice to those of the Afghanistan Reference Group and Caritas Internationalis to release a number of recommendations to donors in Afghanistan.
The recommendations have been addressed to the Canadian government as well as to the international community and aim to increase aid effectiveness in Afghanistan.
Development and Peace has been supporting local organisations in Afghanistan since 2001. The organisation is currently working with its partners to strengthen civil society and empower women, particularly in the provinces of Ghor, Kapisa and Parwan.
Development and Peace has also engaged in policy dialogue on Afghanistan as a member of the Afghanistan Reference Group - bringing together Canadian civil society organisations working in Afghanistan - and Caritas Internationalis - the Catholic Church’s international aid network.
